The data presented here is totally gathered from secondary sources, is not complete, and very likely contains errors.  The sources used include local newspaper articles, GAR post membership lists, the 1883 Pensioner’s Roll, Civil War pension information, county cemetery records, county histories, information from various websites, and data gathered from descendants.

Under NO circumstances should you consider this information ‘the last word’  – ALWAYS do your own research, and confirm this data with other sources.

The qualifications for inclusion on this list include living in the county, membership in a GAR post in the county, being buried in the county, and having family who moved to the county, sometimes even after the veteran’s death.

In some cases I have indexed more information about these men.  I will be glad to provide you that indexed information and/or speculation, along with the names of the sources.  Please just send an email to me with Norton County Civil War Veterans as the subject.  Because I do not live in the county, I cannot assist you with further lookups.

To obtain a copy of the TEXT of the sources I used, please contact the Norton County Genealogical Society’s researcher, Walta Russ.  You may also write to Norton County Genealogical Society, 311 W. Lincoln, Norton, Kansas 67654.  Please be aware that you will be asked for a small donation to cover photocopy, postage, and other costs associated with maintaining a non-profit genealogical collection.
