Dr. Sullivan was an early teacher and after completing his medical course, he settled in Almena and practiced for many years.  The Sullivan’s lived in the brick house at the corner of Ives and Barclay  Streets.  Dr. Sullivan raised one son, Loren.  He went to school in Almena, and on to college to become a lawyer.  He married and returned to Almena with his wife Martha and settled on a stock farm north of Almena on Horse Creek.  He raised hogs, chickens, cattle, goats, mules, and horses.  After Dr. Sullivan retired, he and Mrs. Sullivan made their home with their son and his family on the farm until their deaths.
