Ira was born near Athens, Ohio in 1845 where he grew to manhood and married Sarah Blackwood. They moved to Sidney, Iowa, engaging in the mercantile business and later in 1874 he took a homestead near Almena in Norton County. They lived for a short time at Odell, Nebraska where Arthur the youngest of six children was born October 8, 1883. Another son Eber was born in Norton County August 9, 1879.
Arthur and Eber each graduated in medicine and surgery from Ensworth Medical College in St. Joseph, MO. They both practiced medicine in Oberlin, KS. Dr. Arthur died in 1922 and Dr. Eber in 1942.

Ira and Sarah Reeves built a home in 1886 in Almena where they lived the remainder of their lives. He practiced medicine having been issued a medical license from a college in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1886. Ira practiced medicine in this frontier community for several years.
Their other children were Lymon who died while very young, Warren who engaged in farming most of his life near Almena and passed away in 1949, Gertrude married Warren Henslee, a Methodist minister, she passed away in 1967, and Nellie who married Amos Calfee, a farmer in Norton County, and she died in 1910.
