Lenora

On Sunday afternoon , June the eighth, the mortal part of Dr. Ward Carter was consigned to the grave. The services were held at the Opera House, with Rev. Dull officiating, and laid to rest in the South Cemetery, after a short floral service by the O.E. S. Chapter, the Lenora Lodge A. F. & A. M. performed the final rites of the Masonic Order.
Honorary pall bearers were: Dr. E. O. Henshall, Dr. Jim Henshall, Dr. Tinney, Dr. Cole, Dr Kennedy, Dr. Kenny, Dr. Jefferies, and Dr. Hardesty. Dr. Hollenshead and Dr. Gaither were listed as active pall bearers.
Dr. Carter William Ward , son of David and Clara Ward, was born in Osborne, Kansas June 16,1885, and died July 4, 1924. He graduated from his home town high school in 1904. After that he taught school for two years and in 1906 he began the study of medicine at the Kansas University from which he graduated in 1910 with a degree of Doctor of Medicine. He was a member of the Nu Sigma Nu Fraternity. After leaving college he located at Almena, for a few months, and then located at Lenora, where he had since practiced his profession.
He was married to Miss Fern Larrick on Oct. 18, 1916, she was a Lenora girl.
He is survived by his wife and son Louis, his mother Clara M. Ward, two sisters, Laura and Harriet and one brothers Fred, His father, brother Carlie, and sister Francis preceded him to the Great Beyond.
Coming back to town from a sick call, there were children walking home from school, one little girl crossed to the other side of the road, and the Dr. didn’t see her. She was struck by the car and didn’t survive this affected the Dr. greatly.—from Lenora News
