1890 – 1975
Dr. Kennedy was born September 22, 1890 at Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Joseph Patrick and Anne Browne Kennedy. He received his primary and secondary schooling at Des Moines as well as his B.S and M. D. degree at Drake University, graduating June 15, 1913. Following graduation he served one year internship at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines before coming to Norton in 1914.
On October 17, 1920 at Norton he was united in marriage to Edith Donovan. He practiced continuously in Norton with the exception of was service from August 1917 until July 1918 where he served in Europe.
During his first 24 years he was engaged in general practice, the next 24 years he devoted most of his time in surgery and consultation. Since 19(?) he has devoted his practice mostly to cardiac treatment.
Dr. Kennedy was honored with a Dr. Kennedy Day in November 1970, many people turned out to wish him well after 54 years of practice. He had his first office over Browne’s Store and later over the Stapleton Drug Store.
Dr. Kennedy was a member of Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post, the Francis Assisi Catholic Church and Council No. 1510 Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Kennedy died February 8 1975 at the Norton Hospital. Survivors include his wife, a son Joseph and two daughters Eugenia Kennedy and Rosalie Kennedy and four grandchildren. Edith passed on in 1977, they are buried in Norton Cemetery.
